Sunny summer wedding at Harrington Farm
J+C got married at the peak of summer, on a warm (but not too warm), gorgeous day at Harrington Farm in Princeton, Massachusetts. One thing I love about summer weddings is that the flowers are at peak – and J + C took total advantage of that! They chose juicy peachy-pink tones, which complemented the gorgeous setting perfectly! All photos by Katie Karlberg Photo. (except as noted) Location: Harrington Farm Flowers by me! J’s bouquet was a mix of locally grown blooms like lisanthus, zinnias, dahlias, and veronica and a few peachy garden roses as well. Her maids’ bouquets were similar, but smaller (naturally!) C’s groomsmen’s boutonnieres were each different,…

How to plant dahlia tubers
I’ve sold dahlia tubers the past couple of years as a way to supplement my winter income, as well as to share these amazing flowers with fellow dahlia lovers! It took me a while to figure out the best way to store them (and in fact, it’s a work in progress!) but as my stock of tubers has grown and I’ve gotten better at propagating them, I’ve found that sharing the love is the best way to go! Some people are old hands at growing dahlias, but for those of you who might be new to them, here’s a short guide to planting: Plant at the right time of year.…

Seasonal summer flowers for a New England summer wedding
I’ve flowered a couple of weddings at Fruitlands so far, and each seems to be at the peak of summer. The warmest days, the peak of summer flower harvest, and always, always, that beautiful view of the hills of central Massachusetts from the ceremony spot in the meadow. Summer wedding flowers are the most varied and offer so many possibilities! As mentioned, the location of this wedding is the grounds of Fruitlands Museum, Harvard, Massachusetts. All photos are by Fergie Medar Photography. Colleen’s bouquet was pinks and light purples and whites – really perfect for peak-summer flowers. You can see a few roses in her bouquet, but I also used…

Bright and sunny summer wedding at the Boylston Rooms
When I was setting up the arch installation for Caitlyn and Justin’s wedding, someone – probably photographer Trish Kemp – said it was pretty and sunny, just like the bride’s personality. I thought this was so sweet! And since I already knew Caitlyn (as did Trish) before she hired me to do her wedding flowers, I agree! All photos of Caitlyn, Justin, and their friends are by Trish Kemp Photography. Location: the ever beautiful The Boylston Rooms, Easthampton. Summer flowers give us all the variety we could ask for in a wedding bouquet, and Caitlyn’s bouquet was no exception. I used sunflowers, light blue tweedia (I started seeds in February!),…

Orchard themed wedding at the historic Fruitlands Museum
Fruitlands is a gorgeous historical orchard in Harvard, MA, and was the site of an intentional community created by Louisa May Alcott’s father and their friends in the mid 19th century. It has walking trails, gardens, lots of information and artifacts about Transcendentalism, and it’s also the site of many a wedding, including Elizabeth and Herbert’s very colorful affair this past August! I LOVE the photos from this wedding. One reason is because Elizabeth and Herbert wanted COLOR for their flowers, and I love color. When we first talked they didn’t give me a color scheme, exactly, but a list of colors they liked, which I loosely translated into “the…

Summer Sunset Colors for a Romantic Valley View Wedding!
When Dana told me she wanted her wedding flowers to be the colors of a pale summer sunset, I knew exactly what she meant. At the peak of summer, days in New England are long, just the right amount of warm, and perfect. And summer sunsets give way to summer nights! (Cue up Summer Lovin’, Grease soundtrack). Tell me more… Pale summer sunset. Yellows, pale pinks, peaches…a perfect color scheme to match what’s growing on the farm mid summer! Plus a few sunflowers, because: sunflowers! All photos by Kelsey and Liam, Ke-Li Photography. Location: Valley View Farm

Purples and pinks and the Seven Sisters in the background: a fall wedding in Amherst
Sophie and Dane got married in Sophie’s grandmother’s backyard, which sounds sweet, right? And when Grandma’s backyard abuts the Holyoke Range state park, you get a view for days – a perfect backdrop for their family and friend-filled wedding. Something doubly sweet: Sophie’s parents were married in that same backyard! This wedding is a perfect example of a fall wedding with almost 100% seasonal blooms, but whose colors were anything but “seasonal.” September on my farm is full of all the colors, and I was thrilled that Sophie wanted purples and pinks and whites – I had plenty! Black and White and Stylish All Over, The Boylston Rooms, Easthampton
Sometimes couples want all the colors, all the flowers, and all the decor, and sometimes they want something more understated. Classic, even. Rachelle and Eric’s wedding at The Boylston Rooms in Easthampton was a great example of simple, but gorgeous and effective styling. Keeping it simple allowed the industrial chic atmosphere of the venue to be front and center, or rather, front and center, but behind the bride and groom! All photos are by Dan Piasecki Photography. Location: The Boylston Rooms, Easthampton, MA The Boylston Rooms is situated in the Keystone Building, one of Easthampton’s renovated (and in process) mill buildings. Funnily enough, my first connection to The Boylston Rooms…

Fun + Feathers = A Bespoke Summer Wedding at Quonquont Farm
The photos that include Hilary and Ross’s flowers, courtesy of Lex and Jake, show a gorgeous couple enjoying an amazing, thoughtful, curated day, courtesy of Quonquont Farm in Whately, surrounded by family and friends… …but the real story of this wedding (or at least the last half of it) was the bride’s Instagram feed, which showed an amazing PARTY that lasted all night long. When you get a text from the bride at 5 a.m. the next day thanking you for your amazing work you know a good time was had by all! Jewel-toned Florals for a Sultry Summer Evening at Montague Retreat Center
When I arrived at Montague Retreat Center to drop off the flowers for Julia and Doug’s August wedding I was worried about rain. The forecast called for the kind of brief, but intense thunderstorms that happen a lot in New England in the hottest and most humid part of summer, and while I can set up an arch installation inside as well as out – there was no arch inside the venue. A couple of texts and phone calls later and the call was made: we’re doing it outside. Photos of Julia and Doug’s wedding: Kissick Weddings. Location: Montague Retreat Center, Montague, Massachusetts. Planner: Events by Pamela Joy.
