Perfectly peach fall wedding flowers at Valley View Farm, Haydenville

September is a perfect time for wedding flowers if you’re working with a farmer-florist, like me. Pretty much ALL the most special flowers are in bloom: the dahlias, the lisianthus, the fancy zinnias, romantic hydrangea, the scabiosas…that’s what M and J wanted for their perfectly peach fall wedding at Valley View Farm in Haydenville, MA, last September, and that’s what they got.

Florals: Me!

The pavilion at Valley View always affords a spectacular backdrop. We accented the ceremony space with large, lush arrangements of seasonal flowers atop whisky barrels, and lined the aisles with peach, white, and orange arrangements placed in sap buckets – a nod to Valley View’s maple sugaring operation.

Hydrangea and dahlias stole the show – they provided the perfect muted fall colors that M and J had asked for.

Their centerpieces were long, low boxes filled with fall flowers. I spy more dahlias, but also zinnias, lisianthus, grasses, hypericum foliage, and thornless raspberry foliage. This is an excellent centerpiece for the farm tables at Valley View, especially if the meal is family style.  A long, low centerpiece fills the table, but doesn’t impede conversation, and because it’s solid and low (vs. tall and tippy!) it allows folks to share dishes across the table.

Another view of one of the low box centerpieces. I love the colors that M & J chose – they are so harmonious with the lighter wood and white backdrop at Valley View Farm. Honestly? All flowers go with Valley View, but especially ones that are seasonal – the natural neutrals in the interiors are complemented by the natural world outside. If we bring those same outside colors inside it’s so satisfying. “Fall colors” don’t have to be bright oranges and reds (those are great, too!) Choices like M+J made  – faded, or muted fall tones, either in a lighter shade, or darker, work perfectly in this space.
